Gulf Station
Mount Victory, Ohio
circa 2008
Unfortunately, this lovingly restored vintage Gulf station replica hidden away in a very small town no longer exists ... well, not in this form.
This photo was taken with a Holga 120BC, a plastic toy camera that has its own photography subculture. Many of my photos here for download were taken with a Holga 120BC (square format 120 film) or a Holga 135 BC (rectangular format, takes 35mm film).
Between 2006 and 2009, I used to drive around Ohio, looking for interesting old architecture, fabulous old mid-century signage, odd or funny things, intriguing cemeteries, water features, and roadside attractions. I'd hop out of the car when I found something likely-looking, and grab my trusty Canon Digital Rebel, my Holga 120, Holga 135BC, or a cheap plastic panoramic and take some photos of it.
I covered a lot of the state doing this, and managed to shoot a lot of things that sadly, no longer exist. Every once in a while, I'd find a magical mid-century gem; those gems got the Holga.
